Hedi Slimane’s Celine teddy in its brightest colourway: a green wool body, cream lambskin sleeve panels and a felt C on the chest, cut in the loose, dropped-shoulder line of the Jackson model.
The Piece
The varsity jacket has been a constant in Hedi Slimane’s work since his Saint Laurent years, and at Celine it became one of the defining pieces of the menswear. The teddy returns season after season in new colours and fabrics, but the wool-and-leather versions with the chenille-style C are the ones that have come to stand for the house. This is the Jackson teddy, reference 2V58N896C.
The body is a dense, textured green wool with a little polyamide for strength, and the sleeves carry broad panels of cream lambskin that sweep from shoulder to underarm. Green and cream striped rib finishes the collar, cuffs and hem, the front closes with green enamel snaps, and leather-piped welt pockets sit at the sides. Inside it is lined in viscose with cotton pocket bags.
The Jackson cut is generous and relaxed, with a dropped shoulder and a full sleeve that gathers into the rib, so it sits comfortably over a hoodie or heavy knit. Size 48 wears roomy, and the green is unusual enough to make it the single colour in an otherwise plain outfit.
Celine teddies in the classic colourways move quickly, and green is one of the less common options. This example is clean, sharp and ready to wear.
