A khaki wool blouson from Berluti with a calf leather collar, its chest washed in tonal Scritto calligraphy, the house’s signature script drawn from an eighteenth-century manuscript.
The Piece
Berluti was founded in Paris in 1895 as a bespoke shoemaker, and its Scritto pattern, taken from the handwriting of an old manuscript, has become the house’s most recognisable code. Under Kris Van Assche, artistic director from 2018 to 2021, Scritto moved from leather goods into ready-to-wear, printed and embossed across jackets and knitwear. The internal code R21OBL108WAIG points to that period.
The jacket is made from a fine, dense wool with a quiet sheen, in a khaki brown that sits between olive and tobacco. Tonal Scritto script and a Berluti seal are printed across the front shoulders and chest. It has a smooth leather shirt collar with a chain hanging loop, a long silver zip, two patch pockets with flaps and Berluti-engraved snaps, angled hand pockets, ribbed cuffs and hem, a cupro lining printed in Scritto, and a light polyester wadding.
Size 48 has a clean, straight fit that ends at the hip, smart enough to wear over tailoring and relaxed enough for the weekend.
It comes with its garment bag and is in excellent pre-owned condition.
