The Y's 101 boot from Spring/Summer 2023, Dr. Martens' six-eye 101 reworked for Y's with a heavier sole, a rear zip pulled by the AirWair loop, and smooth leather over a tan core.
The Piece
Y's, the line Yohji Yamamoto founded in 1972 before showing his mainline in Paris, has long favoured clothes that move: wide trousers, long skirts, oversized tailoring. Its collaborations with Dr. Martens give that silhouette a grounded base, and the Spring/Summer 2023 collection used this boot across many of its looks.
It is built on the 101, the six-eye cousin of the 1460, which sits lower on the ankle and is easier to wear with volume. Y's thickened the sole for more presence, and added a full-length zip at the heel whose pull is the yellow and black AirWair loop, so the boot can be laced once and then slipped on and off. The upper is vintage smooth leather with a tan core, which will show warm brown through the black at the creases as it ages. The insole carries both the Dr. Martens and Y's marks.
Tagged UK 4, roughly 23 cm, with an outsole of 26 cm and a shaft height of about 16.5 cm. It suits a women's US 6 or EU 37, and the rear zip makes it straightforward to fit.
Collaborations between Y's and Dr. Martens are produced in limited runs each season and tend to vanish quickly in the smaller sizes. This pair has been worn and will continue to age gracefully, the tan core rising through as the leather creases, which is exactly how the brown-cored smooth leather is meant to be enjoyed.

- Light staining on the laces where they meet the eyelets.
