The Autumn/Winter 2018 New Era collaboration: a navy wool varsity jacket with black leather sleeves and Yohji Yamamoto's signature embroidered down the front, unworn with its tags.

The Piece

Yohji Yamamoto and New Era have worked together for well over a decade, best known for caps carrying the designer's signature. For Autumn/Winter 2018 the partnership extended to outerwear, with this stadium jacket built in the American varsity tradition and finished with Yamamoto's handwriting.

The body is 100% navy wool with black leather sleeves, black knitted rib at collar, cuffs and hem, and a snap front. The signature is embroidered in white along the left front, and the New Era flag mark appears on the left cuff. Inside is a black diamond-quilted satin lining with padding for warmth. Zipped and welted pockets complete the front.

The jacket carries New Era labelling inside, size 4 (Large), with product code HV-Y30-811 on the composition tag. The original price ticket, STADIUM JKT YY LOGO HM, is still attached.

The fit is a classic stadium jacket: square through the body and finishing at the hip. Styling photographs show the jacket worn over wide black trousers and a matching New Era cap, which is how the collaboration was intended: American sportswear seen through Yamamoto's black. Unworn examples with tickets have become scarce, as most were bought to be worn through the winter they were released.
