Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme Long Jacket with The Times They Are A-Changin' Embroidered Portrait, Black, Size 3

A long black gabardine jacket, hand-stitched at the sleeve heads, carrying a single embroidered and printed patch at the hem: a bearded figure in a red beret and the words The Times They Are A-Changin' Fast Too.

The Piece

Yohji Yamamoto has borrowed lines from songs and poems for his menswear for decades. Here the borrowing is from Bob Dylan, with a wry addition: the times are changing, and fast too. The patch, a portrait of an old man in a red beret worked in thread over a printed ground, sits low on the left front, where the hand would rest, and is visible again on the back of the hem.

The jacket is cut long, to the shin, in 100% wool gabardine with a cupro lining, with peak lapels, three buttons, a chest welt and flap pockets. The sleeve heads are attached with visible hand stitching, a detail the Japanese trade calls sodeyama hand-stitching, giving the shoulder a soft, slightly irregular line. The embroidery is worked in rayon and cotton thread, its edges deliberately frayed.

The jacket is tagged size 3, with product code HK-J38-127, and is attributed to Autumn/Winter 2017.

It wears as a long, fluid coat-jacket, closer to a frock coat than to a blazer. With black trousers and a white shirt, it is classic Pour Homme; the patch makes it unmistakable.
