A rare Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme collection-line tuxedo coat in black wool gabardine, a long shawl-collared coat fastened by a single black leather strap with a tongue-and-loop closure.

The Piece

Yamamoto has spent decades reworking the dinner jacket, stripping it of buttons and formality until only its silhouette and its gravity remain. This piece belongs to that line of thought: a tuxedo stretched into a full-length coat, with a wide satin-faced shawl collar and the front held closed by one black leather strap rather than buttons.

The strap is a small object in its own right, with a narrow leather tongue passing through a stitched loop and anchored at each side with metal rivets. It lets the fronts overlap loosely, more like a robe than a jacket, and gives the coat its slightly undone elegance. Two flap pockets, a single back vent and buttoned cuffs complete the plain, severe outline.

The cloth is the house's classic black wool gabardine, dense and matte, lined in cupro. The season is to be confirmed; the label and construction place it in the Pour Homme collection line, made in Japan.

Tagged size 5, the largest regular Pour Homme size, it measures 50 cm across the shoulder, 52 cm across the chest and 115 cm long. The cut is relatively close for a size 5, so it will suit a men's medium to large who want a long, narrow coat.
