Look 10 from Autumn/Winter 2024: an ankle-length black wool coat with tail-like lower panels that open onto a red and navy striped lining, and horse-leather straps falling down the back.
The Piece
Autumn/Winter 2024 at Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme was a study in long, eccentric tailoring, and Look 10 is one of its most theatrical pieces. The coat is built like a frock coat that has been allowed to grow, its lower panels hanging loose and its back crossed by straps that recall harness or braces.
It is cut in 100% black wool with a notch lapel, three-button front and four-button cuffs, and fully lined in cupro with a bold red, navy and ivory stripe. The lower front and back are formed from deep pocket panels that fall away from the body to show the striped lining, and two horse-leather straps hang from the back waist to the hem.
The Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme signature label is inside, size 3, made in Japan, with product code HO-J59-113.
At 144 cm long it reaches the ankle on most wearers. The shoulder is natural and the body generous, so it can be worn over tailoring as well as knitwear. In motion the loose lower panels swing open and the stripe appears, so the coat changes character with every step; standing still, it is a severe black column. It is a piece for those who wear Pour Homme as a uniform rather than as an occasional statement.
