Autumn/winter 2023 Pour Homme drape trousers in black wool gabardine, cut with a dropped rise, generous thigh and tapering leg that folds into soft, heavy pleats as you move.
The Piece
If there is one Yohji Yamamoto garment that defines the Pour Homme silhouette, it is the draped trouser. This pair, code HJ-P21-100 from autumn/winter 2023, follows the classic formula: a low-slung seat, a full seat and thigh, and a leg that narrows sharply to a cropped hem so the cloth gathers above the shoe.
The cloth is a fine, dry wool gabardine, half-lined in cupro, with a matte black face that holds the drape without shine. A button fly with a long zip, back button-through pockets and an internal drawcord at the waist let the fit be adjusted; the waist is measured at up to 108 cm, a reminder that these are designed to be worn loose and gathered rather than fitted.
Size 1 is Pour Homme's smallest, but the cut is so ample that it suits a wide range of builds; the inseam measures 91.5 cm with a 41 cm rise and an 18.5 cm hem.
Gabardine gives this version a particular advantage over the softer wool and rayon drape trousers in the line: it is firm enough to hold its pleats through a long day, resists creasing in the seat and knees, and wears across three seasons rather than only in winter.
Worn with a long jacket or a simple shirt, these are the trousers that make every other Yohji piece look right.
