Rare Reversible Ed Hardy Souvenir Jacket with Winged Creature, Eagle, Serpent, Skull, Dagger and Sakura Embroidery

A spectacular Ed Hardy satin bomber combining the flamboyant energy of Y2K tattoo culture with the dramatic construction of a Japanese-inspired sukajan.

The richly embroidered side features a brilliant scarlet-red body framed by metallic golden sleeves. Across the back, a muscular winged griffin-like creature descends through scattered cherry blossoms beneath the sweeping Ed Hardy signature. The sleeves continue the tattoo narrative with an eagle, serpent and skull composition on one side and an ornate ceremonial dagger surrounded by decorative flourishes on the other.

Turn the jacket inside out for a cleaner gold-and-red satin bomber, offering two completely different moods within one garment.

What Makes It Special

This is an unusually elaborate Ed Hardy jacket, with embroidery extending across the back, chest and both sleeves rather than being limited to a single central motif.

The reversible construction transforms the heavily decorated tattoo-art side into a comparatively minimal golden bomber with red sleeves. Its saturated jewel-tone palette, dense embroidery and theatrical silhouette make it especially striking among Y2K statement jackets.

Identification and Design

Brand: Ed Hardy
Garment Type: Reversible satin bomber / sukajan-inspired souvenir jacket
Primary Side: Scarlet red body with metallic gold sleeves
Reverse Side: Metallic gold body with scarlet red sleeves
Closure: Full front zipper
Construction: Raglan sleeves with rib-knit collar, cuffs and waistband
Style: Y2K tattoo streetwear / Japanese souvenir-jacket influence

Embroidered Motifs

The central back composition depicts a hybrid winged creature with an eagle-like head, muscular humanoid body, clawed feet and dramatic black-and-silver wings. The figure appears among embroidered cherry blossoms and falling petals, creating a curious fusion of American tattoo imagery and Japanese floral symbolism.

One sleeve carries a dense composition of an eagle, coiling serpent and stylized skull. The opposite sleeve features an elongated ornamental dagger with the Ed Hardy signature and decorative scrollwork.

The front continues the tattoo-art narrative with additional creatures, skull imagery and smaller embroidered winged figures.

Symbolism and Visual Character

The eagle traditionally evokes independence, strength and elevated vision, while the serpent introduces transformation, danger and renewal. The skull adds a memento mori quality associated with classic tattoo culture.

Cherry blossoms soften the composition while introducing themes of beauty, transience and the fleeting character of life. Together, the motifs create a dramatic wearable tableau that shifts between aggression and elegance.

Materials and Construction

Crafted from a lightweight satin-finish synthetic textile with extensive multicolored machine embroidery.

The jacket includes:

• Reversible two-sided construction
• Full metal zipper
• Raglan sleeves
• Rib-knit collar, cuffs and waistband
• Angled hand pockets
• Dense embroidery across the body and sleeves
• Glossy red and metallic gold satin panels

Period Assessment

The styling, oversized Ed Hardy signature, tattoo-derived imagery and vivid satin color palette are characteristic of the Y2K and early-2000s fashion era.

The exact production year is not confirmed, though the construction and design appear consistent with Ed Hardy’s original tattoo-streetwear period rather than a minimalist contemporary interpretation.

Condition

Good pre-owned condition with light signs of previous wear and storage.

The satin retains its vivid color and characteristic sheen, while the principal embroidered designs remain visually strong. Natural creasing, gentle surface wear and minor age-related imperfections may be present throughout the fabric.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

Approximate Measurements

Measurements taken flat:

Back length: approximately 65 cm / 25.6 in
Chest width: approximately 60 cm / 23.6 in
Raglan sleeve from collar to cuff: approximately 76–78 cm / 29.9–30.7 in
Sleeve from underarm to cuff: approximately 50 cm / 19.7 in

Fit should be determined by comparing these measurements with a similar jacket that already fits comfortably.

Styling and Display

The embroidered red-and-gold side works beautifully as the centerpiece of an otherwise restrained outfit. Pair it with black denim, leather boots or wide-leg trousers and allow the embroidery to carry the entire look.

The reverse side offers a cleaner athletic bomber aesthetic while retaining the same vivid Y2K color energy.

Displayed on a garment stand or wall-mounted hanger, the embroidered side also functions as dramatic tattoo-inspired textile art.
