A new Y-3 Small Backpack, article JV9721, in matte black nylon with a perforated rubberised panel carrying the tonal Y-3 logo and a front of three flap pockets.
The Piece
Y-3's bags follow the same logic as its clothes: an adidas technical base, re-proportioned and blacked out by Yohji Yamamoto's studio. The Small Backpack, article JV9721, is believed to come from the 2025 collection.
It is cut from a dense, matte black nylon with a softly domed body. The front is built in layers: a large flap pocket, a central perforated panel moulded with the Y-3 logo in tonal grey, and two side flaps that wrap around the corners, three external flap pockets in all. Inside, a polyester lining holds an open pocket and a zip pocket, with room for A4 documents and a small laptop. The back panel is padded, with adjustable straps, a grab handle and a D-ring for a carabiner.
At 43 cm high, 29 cm wide and 12 cm deep it is compact enough for daily use while still holding a day's kit. All-black and quiet, it sits as comfortably with tailoring as with sportswear.
For anyone building a Y-3 wardrobe, a black backpack is the piece that gets used every day. The rubberised logo panel is the one flourish, and because it is tonal it never shouts; the rest is clean, durable nylon chosen to age well, with flaps that keep small items secure and a shape that stays neat even when the bag is only half full.
