Monumental Four-Auspicious-Creature Embroidery Across Black Satin and Champagne Brocade

A spectacular reversible Japanese sukajan presenting two dramatically different expressions of traditional symbolic art.

The principal black-and-champagne face is almost entirely consumed by an extraordinary gold, ivory and charcoal embroidery composition. A sinuous dragon rises from layered waves on one side while a sweeping phoenix descends from the opposite side, their bodies meeting across the shoulders and continuing around the front panels.

Turn the jacket inside out and the mood becomes quieter but no less ornate: champagne brocade with black jacquard sleeves, tonal bird medallions on the chest and an elegant crane-and-turtle composition embroidered across the back.
