A dramatic vintage Japanese sukajan balancing menace and beauty, this reversible souvenir jacket features horned Hannya masks surrounded by sakura blossoms, peonies, braided cords and a short blade.

The main side is rendered in rich crimson satin with champagne-toned sleeves, creating a theatrical background for the large embroidered mask composition. Turn the jacket inside out to reveal a completely different personality: a restrained black satin body framed by elaborate patterned sleeves filled with gold dragons, blossoms and swirling ornamental forms.

Two jackets seem to inhabit the same garment. One side announces itself in scarlet, flowers and fangs. The other retreats into black, gold and painterly pattern.

Hannya Mask and Floral Iconography
