The Piece
The sukajan, or Yokosuka jumper, began as an embroidered souvenir jacket in postwar Japan, and its imagery long ago widened from dragons and tigers to the flowers and insects of Japanese decorative art. This vintage green example is embroidered with flowers and butterflies in the manner of tattoo art, the butterfly an emblem of grace and transformation in Japanese design.
