The Piece

Kantai Collection, widely known as KanColle, reimagines historic warships as anime characters; Akagi appears as an aircraft-carrier heroine, which explains the aircraft woven into this design alongside red sakura and a dragon.

The sukajan, or Yokosuka jumper, began in postwar Japan as an embroidered satin souvenir jacket made for American servicemen stationed around the Yokosuka naval base, and has since become one of the defining hybrid garments of Japanese fashion. Anime-themed examples such as this carry that heritage into contemporary Japanese fan culture.
