Rare EVISU Yamane Dark Indigo Jeans • Oversized Kimono Brocade Daicock • Floral Gold Wagara Fabric • Japanese Designer Denim

Japanese Denim Meets Textile Art

These are not ordinary EVISU jeans.

Across the rear is an enormous Daicock, EVISU’s exaggerated version of its signature gull motif, constructed not simply with paint or conventional embroidery but through a dramatic gold-toned Japanese brocade textile appliqué.

The motif begins beneath one rear pocket, rises across the seat in EVISU’s unmistakable sweeping arc, and descends almost to the knee on the opposite leg. From a distance it reads immediately as the iconic oversized gull. Up close, however, the surface reveals an intricate textile landscape of flowers, foliage, decorative medallions and traditional Japanese patterning.

Against the deep indigo denim, the brocade behaves almost like antique kimono fabric mounted onto a denim canvas.

It is precisely the kind of collision that made the Yamane-era EVISU universe so compelling: Osaka denim culture, irreverent branding, traditional Japanese decorative arts and obsessive individuality compressed into one pair of jeans.

The Daicock: EVISU’s Giant Gull

The rear treatment belongs to one of the most recognizable branches of EVISU design language: the Daicock.

EVISU’s famous gull, or Kamome-inspired mark, is normally associated with the back pockets. The Daicock takes that familiar curve and radically enlarges it, allowing the logo to sweep across the seat and legs as an architectural part of the garment.

Here, that idea becomes much richer.

Rather than creating the Daicock through a single-color painted line, the maker has formed the entire oversized curve using patterned brocade fabric.

This transforms branding into textile composition.

From across a room:

EVISU.

From a few feet away:

giant Daicock.

From close range:

flowers, ornamental textile motifs, metallic-looking gold, woven detail and Japanese decorative pattern.

The design reveals itself in stages. 👖✨

Japanese Brocade / Wagara Textile

The gold textile appears to use a brocade or jacquard-style woven construction carrying densely arranged Japanese-inspired decorative motifs.

The field includes combinations of:

floral clusters,
foliage,
ornamental roundels,
red accents,
green details,
cream and pale-gold grounds,
and intricately woven patterning.

Unlike a printed graphic, woven brocade gains much of its richness from the structure of the textile itself.

Different threads catch the light at different angles, creating subtle variation and depth.

Placed onto dark indigo denim, it produces an especially luxurious contrast:

workwear fabric versus decorative textile
indigo versus gold
Osaka denim versus Japanese ornamental cloth

That tension is the visual heart of the jeans.

Kimono-Inspired Japonisme

The textile treatment carries obvious visual associations with Japanese kimono and obi fabrics.

EVISU has repeatedly drawn from the wider visual vocabulary of Japanese culture, and the use of decorative woven fabric in a Daicock composition feels particularly appropriate.

Where an ordinary luxury jean might rely on metallic hardware or branding, this piece turns the rear half of the garment into something closer to wearable textile collage.

The gold fabric almost resembles a fragment of formal Japanese brocade transplanted onto rugged denim.

It is exuberant without losing the unmistakably Japanese character of the garment.

Hidehiko Yamane Era Identity

One of the most attractive details visible inside the waistband is the woven care label carrying the wording:

“DESIGN & MADE ONLY BY YAMANE”

That language is deeply evocative of the founder-driven identity associated with earlier EVISU production.

EVISU was founded in Osaka in 1991 by Hidehiko Yamane, becoming one of the most internationally recognizable names connected with the Japanese denim revival. Its early identity was inseparable from Yamane’s fascination with vintage denim construction, playful branding and individualized decoration.

The label therefore contributes more than basic garment information. It reinforces the connection between the jeans and the design vocabulary for which the Yamane-era EVISU world became known.

Deep Indigo Denim

The jeans are constructed in a beautifully dark blue denim with visible natural surface character.

The color sits in the desirable territory between:

raw-looking indigo,
deep rinse denim,
and gently aged Japanese blue.

There is enough texture and subtle fading to keep the garment from appearing flat, but the indigo remains sufficiently dark to provide a strong backdrop for the brocade.

The contrasting golden-orange stitching reinforces the classic five-pocket denim construction.

Visible details include:

button fly,
belt loops,
coin pocket,
front scoop pockets,
rear pockets,
copper-toned rivets,
contrasting topstitching,
and branded waist patch.

Rear Pocket Architecture

Another fascinating detail is the way the rear pockets interact with the Daicock.

The oversized brocade arc passes directly across and around the seat area rather than being treated as a separate isolated patch.

This makes the garment feel designed as a whole composition.

The horizontal rear-pocket openings remain visible above the giant gold curve, allowing the denim construction and decorative textile to overlap visually.

The effect is distinctly EVISU:

practical jeans underneath,
graphic spectacle above.

Leather-Style Waist Patch

At the rear waistband sits the characteristic brown leather-style brand patch.

Its aged coloration complements the dark indigo and yellow-gold stitching exceptionally well.

Rather than competing with the oversized textile graphic, the patch remains understated, leaving the brocade Daicock to function as the dominant signature.

Interior & Construction Details

The photographs show a clean traditional jeans interior with:

button-fly closure
contrasting interior pocket bags
reinforced waistband construction
metal hardware
overlocked seams
contrasting yellow/orange stitching

The care label states instructions including machine washing and identifies the garment prominently with Yamane branding.

The interior construction reinforces that this was conceived as a real denim garment first, with its dramatic decorative treatment added into that framework rather than simply being a novelty fashion print.

EVISU & the Japanese Denim Revolution

EVISU emerged during the remarkable resurgence of interest in vintage American denim construction that took place in Japan during the late twentieth century.

Japanese enthusiasts did not merely copy American jeans.

They dissected them.

Fabric weight, shuttle looms, indigo character, stitching, rivets, pocket shape, fading behavior and manufacturing methods became subjects of almost archaeological attention.

EVISU became one of the defining names associated with that movement.

Founded in Osaka by Hidehiko Yamane in 1991, the company developed an identity that combined traditional denim enthusiasm with a highly recognizable visual language.

The famous gull became one of the signatures through which EVISU transformed otherwise traditional jeans into instantly identifiable fashion objects.

From Kamome to Daicock

The evolution from the small pocket gull to the giant Daicock is one of EVISU’s cleverest ideas.

The ordinary gull is branding.

The Daicock becomes composition.

Stretching the motif across almost the entire rear of a pair of jeans changes the visual balance of the garment. The logo is no longer confined to a pocket. It interacts with:

the legs,
seat,
pockets,
denim grain,
and movement of the wearer.

When the Daicock is executed in something as elaborate as Japanese brocade, the transformation becomes even more dramatic.

Current EVISU itself still uses terminology such as “Brocade Inserted Daicock” and “Brocade Daicock Appliqué” for contemporary interpretations of this design concept.

A True Statement Piece

The jeans can function as the centerpiece of an outfit without requiring much additional styling.

Try them with:

a plain white T-shirt,
black knitwear,
an indigo work shirt,
a minimal Japanese bomber,
engineer boots,
white sneakers,
or a vintage military jacket.

Because the rear is so visually elaborate, restrained styling lets the textile work command attention.

Viewed from the front, the pair remains relatively classic and understated.

Turn around and the entire identity changes.

That front-to-back contrast is excellent.

Collectibility

This design occupies several collector categories simultaneously:

EVISU / Yamane collecting
Japanese denim
Osaka Five-adjacent denim history
Daicock EVISU designs
Japanese brocade fashion
Wagara textile clothing
Y2K Japanese streetwear
designer denim
amekaji
wearable art

The use of an actual textile Daicock makes the garment more visually distinctive than the far more common painted or printed gull variations.

It also creates natural variation from piece to piece because different sections of patterned brocade create different visible combinations within the oversized gull silhouette.

Condition

This is a pre-owned pair of denim jeans.

The supplied photographs show attractive denim character with light wear and natural surface variation consistent with previous use.

Please examine all photographs carefully, particularly:

the hems,
seat,
brocade appliqué,
pocket areas,
waistband,
button fly,
leather patch,
and denim surface.

Vintage and pre-owned Japanese denim may display natural fading, rubbing, thread variation, minor marks, creasing or other characteristics resulting from wear and age.

These characteristics are part of the individuality of an already-developed pair of jeans.

Size & Measurements

Tagged Size: Not clearly visible in the supplied photographs

Because EVISU sizing and older Japanese denim sizing may differ considerably from contemporary mass-market Western sizing, actual flat measurements should be used as the primary fit reference.

Recommended measurements to confirm before purchase:

Waist: to be added
Front rise: to be added
Back rise: to be added
Inseam: to be added
Total length: to be added
Thigh: to be added
Knee: to be added
Hem opening: to be added

Please feel free to message us if you would like sizing information before the measurements are formally added to the listing.

Why This Pair Matters

EVISU has produced countless versions of its gull.

Painted gulls are iconic.

Embroidered gulls are desirable.

But the oversized Daicock executed as Japanese brocade textile appliqué occupies a different visual category.

It combines the graphic scale associated with the boldest EVISU designs with a material vocabulary that immediately evokes Japan itself.

The result is not merely logo denim.

It is Japanese textile culture literally stitched into Japanese denim culture.

For the right collector, that distinction is everything.
