A rare Undercoverism For Rebels tailored jacket from the Arts and Crafts era, cut in DuPont Kevlar for cyclists, with hexagonal underarm vents, a stretch back yoke and a reflector concealed at the collar.
The Piece
Autumn-winter 2005 is remembered as Undercover's Arts and Crafts season, one of the high points of Jun Takahashi's Paris years. Alongside the show pieces, the Undercoverism For Rebels line explored function, and this jacket is a clear example: a tailored blazer built to be ridden in.
The outer fabric is Kevlar, the aramid fibre made by DuPont and used in protective equipment, here woven into a slate-grey cloth with a soft sheen. A navy stretch panel runs across the upper back and down under the arms so the jacket gives when leaning over handlebars. Hexagonal mesh vents sit at the armpits, the inside is lined for breathability, the cuffs are built to block wind, and a reflective strip hides under the back collar. The peaked lapels and two-button front keep it looking like tailoring. The jacket is believed to involve artwork by MADSAKI on the printed label.
Size 2: 40 cm at the shoulder, 45 cm across the chest and 66 cm long. Made in Japan.
