An Undercover sheepskin rider jacket printed with The Dead Hermits and God of the Underworld graphics, a devotional painting of a hooded monk across the back and Takahashi’s icon motifs on the sleeves.
The Piece
Jun Takahashi often invents bands and cults for his collections, and The Dead Hermits is one of his most atmospheric. The jacket treats the black rider, the uniform of punk, as a reliquary: religious painting, lightning bolts and skulls arranged across the leather like a gig poster for a group that never existed.
Cut from soft black sheepskin, it follows the classic rider pattern with asymmetric front zip, snap-down lapels, zip pockets and zip cuffs, finished at the hem with black webbing belts and metal slides. The back is printed with a painting of a kneeling hooded monk, in the manner of the Spanish Golden Age, between The Dead Hermits and God of the Underworld in bold white type. On the front and sleeves are a fragment of the same painting, a white lightning bolt, a figure balanced on a saw blade and a skull within a triangle.
The neck carries the Undercover Jun Takahashi label; the care label reads Undercover Co. Ltd, made in Japan, UCW4207-1, size 3, sheepskin surface, cupro lining. The UCW reference places it in Spring-Summer 2019, which we give as an attribution from the tag.
Size 3 fits a men’s medium to large. It has been barely worn.
