Takashi Murakami × KYNE Untitled Q Silkscreen, SP Edition of 25, Superflat Flower Field with Portrait

Untitled Q sets KYNE's restrained portrait against Murakami's immersive Superflat flower field and refuses to reconcile them. The result is a sustained, deliberate tension between two generations of Japanese contemporary practice, issued as a special print edition of only 25.

The Piece

A rigorously composed example of cross-generational Japanese contemporary practice, Untitled Q juxtaposes two distinct visual languages. Murakami's contribution unfolds as a continuous chromatic field, an expansive matrix of smiling floral forms rendered with industrial clarity. Rooted in Superflat, it erases spatial hierarchy and collapses depth into a single uninterrupted surface, immersive and deliberately overwhelming, a visual condition rather than a background.

Against this, KYNE's figure is defined by reduction: stripped to essential contours, neutral in expression, without theatricality or overt narrative. She neither reacts to nor integrates with the field around her, and keeps her psychological autonomy while visually surrounded. The work resists synthesis and insists on coexistence without resolution, environment without depth set against a subject without narrative; where Murakami amplifies and multiplies, KYNE subtracts and distills. The face does not guide interpretation but absorbs the viewer's projection, turning decorative spectacle into a site of introspection.

The SP 25 designation places the work in a highly restricted release, the kind typically reserved for tightly curated distribution. It brings together Murakami's globally recognized market and KYNE's more insulated, limited output, behaving neither like a standard Murakami print nor a KYNE standalone work, and calls for collectors who recognize both authorships and value tension over decoration.
