The Piece
A reversible Satori sukajan in black satin, embroidered with a phoenix whose raptor-like form recalls the eagles and hawks of early souvenir jackets, and with the ryū dragon. The phoenix (hō-ō) heralds virtue and renewal in Japanese art, the dragon governs water and storm, and together they form a classic emblem of balance.
The black ground lets the embroidery stand forward, in the spirit of the Yokosuka jumpers that carried birds of prey and dragons from the first postwar souvenir jackets onward.
