A Hedi Slimane era Saint Laurent Paris L01 motorcycle jacket, reference 397290 Y5YA1, in black lambskin with a padded cupro and cotton lining, in near-mint condition, size 42.
The Piece
Hedi Slimane’s years at Saint Laurent, from 2012 to 2016, produced the house’s defining menswear piece: the L01 motorcycle jacket. Cut narrow and short in thin, buttery lambskin, it took the double rider out of the garage and into the Paris night, and the jackets from his tenure are the ones collectors seek out first. Reference 397290 Y5YA1 is the Slimane-era lambskin L01, and the style code is printed inside each jacket.
This example is in black lambskin with silver-tone zips and snaps. The asymmetric front zip runs beneath snap-down lapels, with shoulder epaulettes, a half belt at the waist and the classic four-pocket front: two vertical zipped chest pockets, a zipped lower pocket and a snap-flap coin pocket. The cuffs close with long zips. Inside, a light polyester padding sits beneath a black lining of 60% cupro and 40% cotton, with the white Saint Laurent Paris label at the neck.
The fit is close and cropped, made to sit at the waist; size 42 suits a slender frame and is the smallest of the regular men’s sizes.
It remains in very good, near-mint condition, a clean example of the jacket that made the modern house.
