Two influential creative forces meet on a single garment: Takashi Murakami's "me me" eye motif, rendered in layered embroidery and appliqué across READYMADE's reconstructed military textile. Preserved unworn, the shorts belong to the emerging category of collectible fashion objects.
The Piece
At first glance the composition feels playful, almost surreal: a field of scattered eyes stitched across military green fabric, blinking in every direction at once. The longer one looks, the more unsettling it becomes. Murakami's "me me" motif has always hovered between innocence and unease, drawing on anime aesthetics while quietly referencing surveillance, multiplicity of identity and the fragmentation of the self. Here the eyes leave the canvas; they are worn, and the artwork begins to look back.
READYMADE does not produce garments in the traditional sense; it reassembles them. Military fabrics drawn from surplus or archival stock are deconstructed and reimagined into new forms, each carrying a past life that is never fully erased. When Murakami's hyper-polished, digitally fluent visual language enters that system, it collides with the raw, tactile world of reconstructed textile: the embroidery is deliberate, the base fabric resists uniformity, and the eyes are precise while their placement feels almost chaotic.
Unlike a painting fixed in one state, the piece changes with movement, altering how the eyes align, overlap and catch light and shadow. Murakami and READYMADE lay the foundation; the wearer completes the composition.
The rarity is one of intersection as much as quantity. Murakami carries global art-market weight and READYMADE commands cult reverence in fashion; together they produce objects too conceptual for mainstream fashion yet too wearable to remain in the gallery. Released in an extremely limited WEB capsule, pieces like this rarely circulate and are quickly absorbed into private collections, and as early crossover pieces they are taking on archival significance.

Superflat Context
Murakami's practice and the Kaikai Kiki studio sit at the intersection of fine art, commercial production and mass-media aesthetics. Superflat dissolves the hierarchy between gallery and marketplace, elevating pop iconography to conceptual discourse, and a collaboration such as this carries that dialogue between reconstruction and visual theory, history and hyper-modernity, into clothing.
