Electric Blue Dragon and Skull Embroidery Reversing to Gambling, Snake, Rose and Playing Card Streetwear Art

COLLECTOR’S OVERVIEW

A vivid reversible Japanese sukajan built around two distinct worlds: traditional dragon imagery on one face and rebellious gambling-culture graphics on the other.

The principal side uses luminous electric-blue satin with ivory, gray, navy, orange, and burgundy embroidery. Two coiling dragons surround a large skull on the back, while matching dragon emblems frame the chest. Burgundy piping and striped ribbing sharpen the silhouette and give the jacket a distinctly late-1990s to Y2K streetwear character.

The reverse presents a silver-gray and black satin surface covered with printed roses, snakes, playing cards, dice, typography, and old-school tattoo-inspired graphics. It transforms the jacket from an embroidered Japanese souvenir piece into a punk, rockabilly, biker, and casino-culture bomber.

One side is mythic and embroidered. The other is graphic, irreverent, and urban. Together they create a highly wearable statement jacket with genuine two-look versatility.

REVERSIBLE DESIGN

Electric Blue Embroidered Face

Dragon and Skull Back Panel

The back is dominated by two serpentine Japanese-style dragons circling a monumental skull.

The dragons are rendered through dense layered embroidery in pale silver, ivory, blue-gray, orange, and muted gold. Their twisting bodies overlap the skull and create a circular composition that feels both protective and confrontational.

The skull introduces a memento mori element, transforming the familiar dragon motif into something darker and more aligned with punk rock, tattoo culture, biker graphics, and Y2K Japanese street fashion.

Decorative Gothic lettering beneath the design reinforces the jacket’s rebellious atmosphere.

Twin Dragon Chest Embroidery

Each chest carries a smaller coiled dragon emblem with red Gothic lettering and rose accents.

The paired arrangement creates balance across the front while allowing the blue satin to remain visible. Angled pockets, burgundy seam piping, and cream-and-red striped ribbing complete the classic souvenir-jacket silhouette.

Silver and Black Printed Reverse

The alternate face features a dense all-over graphic pattern in silver-gray, black, orange, green, purple, and red.

The design combines:

Playing cards
Dice
Roses
Snakes
Gambling slogans
Gothic lettering
Casino-style emblems
Street and biker graphics

The silver body and black sleeves reverse the visual weight of the blue face. This side feels lighter in color but busier in surface detail, giving the jacket a completely different personality.

Rather than functioning as a simple lining, the reverse is fully developed as a second exterior with its own pockets, ribbed trim, and coordinated graphic language.

ICONOGRAPHY AND STYLE

Dragon Symbolism

In Japanese visual culture, the dragon is associated with strength, transformation, guardianship, natural power, and command over water and weather.

Here, the traditional dragon has been pulled into a darker contemporary vocabulary. Its coiled form surrounds the skull like a guardian, predator, or force of controlled chaos.

Skull and Serpent Imagery

The skull introduces mortality, fearlessness, rebellion, and the passage of time.

Snake imagery on the reverse adds further associations with transformation, danger, instinct, and renewal. Together, the dragon, skull, and serpent motifs create a layered design that bridges Japanese iconography with Western tattoo and rock culture.

Gambling Graphics

Cards, dice, roses, and casino references give the reverse face a streetwise “risk and fortune” atmosphere.

The mixture recalls tattoo-flash sheets, rockabilly bowling shirts, motorcycle-club graphics, and the visual excess of early-2000s Japanese streetwear.

MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

The jacket appears constructed from a smooth satin-finish synthetic textile with embroidered and printed decoration.

Visible features smooth satin-finish synthetic textile with embroidered and printed decoration.

Visible features include:

Reversible two-face construction
Electric-blue satin embroidered exterior
Silver-gray and black printed reverse
Large back embroidery
Matching chest embroidery
All-over tattoo and gambling print
Raglan-style sleeves
Full metal zipper
Angled hand pockets on both faces
Striped rib-knit collar, cuffs, and waistband
Decorative contrast piping
Lightweight bomber silhouette

The satin surface changes tone according to the direction of light, producing rich cobalt highlights and darker ink-blue shadows.

PERIOD AND AESTHETIC ASSESSMENT

The color palette, Gothic lettering, skull-and-dragon imagery, reversible construction, and combination of Japanese motifs with tattoo graphics appear consistent with late-1990s to 2000s Japanese Y2K fashion.

It belongs to the modern sukajan tradition rather than early postwar souvenir-jacket production.

The styling sits naturally between:

Japanese streetwear
Punk rock fashion
Rockabilly culture
Biker-inspired clothing
Tattoo art
Harajuku and Y2K fashion
Collectible souvenir jackets

CONDITION

Vintage pre-owned condition with age-appropriate signs of wear.

The satin shows natural creasing, fold lines, directional changes in sheen, and gentle surface variation. Light rubbing, small loose fibers, isolated thread wear, and minor signs of handling or storage may be present.

The principal dragon and skull embroidery remains visually strong, with the major forms, lettering, and color contrasts clearly defined. The printed reverse retains its lively graphic character.

The striped ribbing shows normal vintage softening and relaxation.

Please examine all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description and show the jacket’s present vintage character.

SIZING AND FIT

Japanese vintage jackets often have a shorter body and more compact fit than contemporary Western outerwear.

For the best fit, compare the jacket with a similar bomber or sukajan that already fits comfortably. Flat measurements and personalized sizing guidance can be discussed before purchase.

The raglan-style construction provides natural shoulder flexibility, while the ribbed waistband creates the classic slightly cropped souvenir-jacket shape.
