Takashi Murakami Mononoke Kyoto "Basket of Flowers" Offset Lithograph, Metallic Gold Foil, ED300, Unused

An overflowing bouquet of smiling flowers fills a finely woven basket against a shimmering gold checkerboard that recalls Rinpa school screens. Released for Takashi Murakami's もののけ京都 (Mononoke Kyoto) exhibition in an edition of 300, this offset lithograph with metallic gold foil remains new and unused.

The Piece

"かごに入った花束 (Basket of Flowers)" is among the most beloved compositions of the Mononoke Kyoto exhibition. Murakami's iconic smiling flowers appear in dozens of variations, each with its own expression, color and shape, forming a hypnotic tapestry of joy and movement, while the intricate weaving of the basket grounds the whimsical florals in warm, tactile texture.

The gold checkered background pays homage to classical Kyoto aesthetics and the Rinpa tradition, reimagined through Murakami's contemporary Superflat lens and blending traditional Japanese motifs with his pop-psychedelic identity. The metallic gold foil catches the light, so depth and movement shift with the viewing angle.

Printed in offset lithography and finished in metallic gold foil, the edition was produced exclusively as part of the もののけ京都 lineup. At 605 × 600 mm it has a bold wall presence without overwhelming a room.
