Prada’s take on the military field jacket: khaki cotton gabardine, eight outside pockets, a drawn-in waist and the enamelled triangle on the chest, in a long, roomy size 54.

The Piece

Utility clothing has been part of Prada’s vocabulary since the nylon of the 1990s, and the field jacket is one of the forms the house returns to most. This one keeps the military logic intact and refines everything around it.

The jacket is cut from a smooth khaki-olive cotton with a dry, slightly technical handle and lined in the same cotton. Four flapped bellows pockets crowd the chest in two tiers, one carrying the enamelled Prada triangle; below, four zipped pockets are stacked in pairs at the front, two each side. An internal drawstring gathers the waist, epaulettes button at the shoulders and a covered placket hides the buttons. Small leather details finish the hang loop, and the woven Prada Milano label sits at the neck.

It is a long jacket for the shape, falling to 83 cm, with long 71 cm sleeves, so it reads almost as a short coat. The weight is right for spring and early autumn.

It is the kind of jacket that sits comfortably between dressed and casual: over a knit and grey trousers for the city, or with denim at the weekend. The pocket arrangement is more than decoration, with room for a phone, wallet and keys without a bag, and the drawn waist gives it shape when worn closed. Size 54 is a men’s extra large to double extra large. Made in Italy.
