One of the most recognisable Pleats Please prints: the Thermal Foods series, in which ice cream, banana splits and steaming coffee are rendered as glowing thermal-camera images on a long, fluted dress.
The Piece
Thermal Foods took everyday treats and photographed them with a thermographic camera, translating heat into bands of magenta, lemon, cyan and violet. On permanently pleated polyester the colours shimmer as the pleats open and close, which is why the series became a favourite with collectors of the line's graphic prints. The style code places this piece around 2015.
This is the long-sleeve maxi version, the most dramatic of the shapes. It has a plain round neck and fitted sleeves, and the body widens into a deep flare so that, laid flat, the skirt forms almost a full circle. A sundae glass sits at the centre of the chest; cones, cups and parfait glasses float around it on a hot-pink ground.
On the body it is fitted through the shoulder and loose from the waist, falling to the ankle on most heights. Wear it alone, or layer a cropped black knit over the top for winter.
