Pair of Cloisonné-Style Enamel-on-Copper Lidded Jars, Dragons and Mythic Beasts on Golden Ground, Qing Taste, 55 cm

Paired vessels were the Qing interior's instrument of symmetry, and these two lidded jars keep that grammar alive at roughly 55 cm apiece. Enamel over copper carries dragons and mythic beasts over a golden field, the creatures circling each body so the decoration never comes to rest.

The Piece

This commanding matched pair of enamel-on-copper lidded jars belongs to the cloisonné tradition, decorated with animated dragons and mythic beasts across a warm, golden ground. At roughly 55 cm each, the vessels read as architectural objects rather than tabletop ornaments, scaled to anchor an interior with symmetrical palace-room presence.

The silhouette is ceremonial: rounded shoulders, a generous belly and a tall fitted lid with a small knop handle. The decoration is dense and continuous, with flowing creature forms and scrolling foliage arranged to keep the eye moving around the body.

The pair is presented as Qing dynasty style, with an antique-period attribution based on descriptive documentation and visual characteristics. Without independent authentication this is not asserted as a definitive period claim, and the cultural origin is best framed as Chinese (Qing style) unless proven otherwise.
