A 1993 Type A-2 from the early Old Real McCoy’s period, issued in a run of only 60 and numbered 33. The hand-painted “Sleepytime Suzie” pin-up rides above a row of mission bombs on richly toned horsehide, and the jacket retains its original documentation, tags and box.
The Piece
A rare early-production A-2 by Old Real McCoy’s, executed in 1993 and issued in a strictly limited run of 60 pieces, this example numbered 33 retains its original documentation and packaging. The back panel carries the “Sleepytime Suzie” pin-up motif in hand-painted detail over a richly toned horsehide surface, accompanied by stylized mission bomb markers. Constructed to replicate WWII-era Rough Wear specifications, the jacket shows the brand’s formative balance of technical accuracy and expressive artistic interpretation.
The bold, theatrical “Sleepytime Suzie” lettering has an almost comic-strip quality. Beneath it, the pin-up is caught mid-yawn: a pose that is unguarded rather than conventionally seductive, intimate and slightly irreverent, so that the image reads like a private snapshot. The bomb row below is a quiet reminder that this is stylized war memory, not fantasy. At the front, a Joker-style emblem with playing cards suggests squadron personality, humor and a touch of chaos.
Early-era McCoy’s construction has its own character: heavier, denser horsehide with more raw presence than polished luxury, visible grain that is uneven in a beautiful way, period-correct zipper hardware already aging into character, and robust stitching slightly more industrial than later perfection.
1993 belongs to the golden era of Old Real McCoy’s, before restructuring and modern scaling, when production runs were small, experiments were bold and accuracy and artistry met without restraint. A run of 60 pieces represents a near-vanishing population in collector terms, and an early, hand-painted, numbered example with its full ephemera in unused state is archive-tier McCoy’s, harder to find each year.
