A serialized Real McCoy’s A-2 that trades pilot imagery for paratrooper mythology: an “Airborne Command” banner, a ferocious figure in mid-descent and a hem of parachute insignia, over oil-finished horsehide and a camouflage lining. Its tags, ID card and documentation survive with it, in excellent condition.
The Piece
A striking reinterpretation of the classic A-2, this “Airborne Command” example from The Real McCoy’s is a Rough Wear contract reproduction in a custom nose-art variant, serialized and of limited production. Executed in richly finished brown horsehide, it departs from pilot-centric iconography to explore airborne combat identity, and it is accompanied by its original documentation set.
The back art is explosive. “Airborne Command” arches across the top like a mission banner; beneath it a feral, almost grotesque paratrooper descends with weapon drawn, amid chaotic motion lines and impact energy. Lettering such as “For Lunch Bunch” and “Reech” (painted with a double exclamation mark) adds raw battlefield sarcasm, and a row of parachute insignia along the hem reads like silent tally marks of descent. It is combat-cartoon brutality, closer to frontline graffiti than to romantic pin-up nostalgia.
The horsehide is dense, with a deep oil finish and a subtle rolling grain; structured shoulders keep the A-2 silhouette, the ribbing is tight and the waistline sharply defined. Inside is a camouflage-pattern cotton lining, a rare specification variant and a deliberate narrative decision that is not standard for A-2 reproductions.
The original A-2 was a pilot’s jacket, and paratroopers were not meant to wear it. This piece asks “what if” rather than “what was”, imagining an airborne unit adopting A-2s, personalizing them with aggressive airborne identity and turning gear into psychological armor: speculative history, executed with conviction. It gathers several uncommon points in one jacket: the A-2 platform, an airborne theme less common than pilot art, a full original tag set, serialized documentation and high-grade condition.
