Vivid Fuchsia Kingyo and Lotus Embroidery Reversing to a Silver Dragon and Chrysanthemum Design
COLLECTOR’S OVERVIEW
A spectacular reversible sukajan by Miyabi Musubi, presenting two richly embroidered Japanese compositions in dramatically different color palettes.
The first face glows in vivid fuchsia pink satin with pale champagne sleeves. Red and white kingyo goldfish swim through stylized golden currents among lotus flowers and broad green leaves. Embroidery continues across the chest, shoulders, sleeves, and back, creating a flowing all-over composition rather than a single isolated motif.
Reverse the jacket to reveal a darker and more formidable design in deep purple, charcoal, silver, and lavender. A monumental silver dragon coils across the back among chrysanthemums and layered floral ornament, while paired dragons dominate the front panels and continue onto the sleeves.
One face is luminous, playful, and aquatic. The other is powerful, nocturnal, and dramatic. Together they form an unusually expressive two-in-one piece of Japanese wearable art.
REVERSIBLE DESIGN
Fuchsia Goldfish and Lotus Face
The primary face combines jewel-toned magenta satin with soft champagne sleeves, gold piping, and striped rib-knit trim.
Multiple embroidered goldfish move across the jacket in varied poses, giving the composition a sense of depth and motion. Their bright vermilion scales, white fins, black accents, and dimensional stitched eyes stand vividly against the saturated background.
Lotus blossoms and leaves frame the fish, while sweeping gold and charcoal lines suggest moving water. The imagery continues from the chest across the sleeves and around the back, giving this side the visual richness of a textile painting.
Purple Dragon and Chrysanthemum Face
The reverse transforms the jacket into a darker statement piece.
A large silver-scaled dragon coils vertically across the purple back panel, surrounded by chrysanthemums and additional floral embroidery in lavender, violet, white, gray, and yellow-gold. The long serpentine body follows the shape of the jacket and creates an impressive silhouette when worn.
The front carries two mirrored dragons descending along the chest, complemented by chrysanthemums, peony-like flowers, fan details, and decorative sleeve embroidery.
The silver-gray sleeves balance the deep purple body, while striped ribbing completes the classic Yokosuka bomber profile.
MOTIF AND AESTHETIC LANGUAGE
The goldfish side feels joyful, theatrical, and almost dreamlike. Bright fish, lotus flowers, and swirling water create a composition filled with movement and color.
The reverse offers a striking counterpoint. Its dragon, dark floral ground, and metallic silver embroidery give it a more commanding and ceremonial presence.
This contrast makes the jacket especially versatile:
• Bright fuchsia Japanese streetwear
• Dark purple dragon sukajan
• Floral statement bomber
• Tattoo-inspired embroidered jacket
• Festival and concert outerwear
• Collectible reversible fashion
• Unisex Y2K styling
• Displayable Japanese textile art
MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION
The jacket appears constructed from a smooth satin-finish textile, likely rayon or a rayon-blend fabric, with extensive machine embroidery and rib-knit trim.
Visible features include:
• Fully reversible construction
• Dense embroidery on both faces
• Full-length metal zipper
• Hand pockets on both sides
• Raglan-style bomber sleeves
• Contrast shoulder and sleeve panels
• Decorative piping
• Striped rib-knit collar, cuffs, and waistband
• Lightweight souvenir-jacket silhouette
• Embroidery extending across the body and sleeves
The satin surface naturally shifts between bright highlights and deeper shadows according to the direction of the light.
PERIOD AND STYLE ASSESSMENT
The saturated jewel colors, elaborate reversible construction, dense decorative embroidery, and fashion-forward interpretation of traditional Japanese motifs appear consistent with late-20th to early-21st-century Japanese sukajan and Y2K streetwear design.
This is a modern collectible souvenir jacket rather than an early postwar military-tour example.
Its bold palette and highly decorative surface make it especially suitable for collectors of Japanese street fashion, embroidered outerwear, Harajuku styling, tattoo art, and unusual reversible garments.
CONDITION
Vintage pre-owned condition with age-appropriate character.
The satin shows natural creasing, fold lines, changes in sheen, and gentle surface variation from wear and storage. Minor rubbing, isolated thread wear, small loose fibers, or subtle marks may be present upon close inspection.
The principal goldfish, lotus, dragon, and floral embroidery remains visually strong, with the major forms and color contrasts clearly defined.
Please examine all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description and show the jacket’s present vintage character.
SIZE AND FIT
Size: Japanese L-XL
This is expected to correspond approximately to a contemporary Western M-L, depending on body shape, layering preference, and desired fit.
Japanese sukajan jackets often have a shorter body and more compact silhouette than contemporary Western bomber jackets. The raglan construction provides flexibility through the shoulders, while the ribbed waistband creates the classic slightly cropped shape.
For personalized sizing guidance, please feel welcome to share your usual jacket size or the measurements of a similar garment that fits comfortably.
