Louis Vuitton × Yayoi Kusama Soft Trunk Wallet M81905, Black Taurillon Leather with Red Infinity Dots

Crafted in black Taurillon cowhide and covered with Kusama's red Infinity Dots, this Soft Trunk Wallet M81905 translates Louis Vuitton's historic trunk language into a wearable shoulder format. The intense black-and-red palette gives it a graphic clarity closer to a portable art object than a conventional wallet.

The Piece

The Soft Trunk Wallet occupies a fascinating position in the Louis Vuitton universe: it takes the visual grammar of the maison's travel trunks, reduces the proportions dramatically, softens the construction for everyday wear and gives the result the function of a compact crossbody bag. For the Kusama collaboration, that architecture becomes a canvas for one of contemporary art's most recognizable visual languages. Its rectangular body is defined by corner protectors, vertical structural bands, defined edge construction, dark hardware, a box-like profile and broad shoulder carry, compact yet with real architectural weight, and referencing historical luggage without becoming nostalgic.

The collaboration brings together two forms of repetition. Louis Vuitton's identity is built on ordered systems of Monogram, construction, proportion, symmetry and travel architecture; Kusama's dots multiply organically, change scale and create movement across controlled surfaces. Here the red dots vary subtly in diameter and surface character, some small punctuation marks and others major graphic elements, in a dense but balanced rhythm across the front, sides and rear. Against black, the red becomes exceptionally vivid, one of the strongest color combinations in the collaboration.

The body is deeply grained Taurillon cowhide, a substantial leather with a tactile richness coated canvas cannot replicate; its natural grain remains visible beneath the dot treatment, so material and artwork coexist rather than one covering the other. The hardware is finished in a dark tonal treatment that recedes into the black leather instead of introducing gold or silver contrast, leaving the red dots as the dominant event, an effect that is contemporary, slightly industrial and cohesive. The broad detachable shoulder strap balances the rectangular body and spreads its weight comfortably, confirming the piece as a genuine wearable object rather than a wallet on a chain.

Inside, the M81905 is more organized than its exterior suggests, with six card slots, one open pocket, one dividing zipper compartment and main storage areas for cards, currency, phone-sized essentials and small personal items. Neither side of the collaboration disappears: the Soft Trunk's shape, reinforcement and travel-derived construction stay visible while Kusama's circles move across the rigid geometry like a second system superimposed over the first, one architectural and the other psychological. The leather becomes a field, the dots repeated visual units, the trunk framework a border and the strap turns the whole into a mobile object between accessory, design object and wearable artwork.

Black gives the bag visual gravity and red gives it pulse; it is playful without becoming juvenile, graphic without becoming disposable and compact without losing the presence of a much larger luxury object. The palette styles easily with black tailoring, leather jackets, charcoal or technical outerwear, minimal monochrome outfits, dark denim, white shirting, black knitwear, grey wool and street-luxury layering, acting as the single graphic accent in a restrained outfit. Its 2023 release, Taurillon construction, black-and-red Infinity Dot composition, Soft Trunk architecture, RFID-era production and limited collection status give it enduring crossover appeal between fashion collectors and contemporary-art enthusiasts.
