The Piece
In 2001 Marc Jacobs invited the downtown artist Stephen Sprouse to scrawl graffiti across the Monogram, and the result changed how Louis Vuitton thought about its own canvas. After Sprouse's death in 2004, Jacobs revisited his work in a 2009 tribute collection, adding the painterly roses that Sprouse had drawn. On glossy Monogram Vernis they look as though they were brushed on by hand.
This is the Alma MM, reference M93686, in Rose Pop pink Vernis. The roses bloom in neon orange and pink with green leaves across both sides, and the Louis Vuitton signature is painted in gold. The Alma's dome shape, inspired by a 1934 Gaston-Louis Vuitton design, has a two-way zip, rolled handles and four brass feet, with an interior in pink microfibre with two slip pockets.
At 38.5 cm wide it is a proper day bag. Supplied with padlock, two keys and clochette.
