Virgil Abloh's Soft Trunk rendered in Monogram Prism, an iridescent embossed PVC that shifts from cyan to amber, from the Spring/Summer 2020 men's show.
The Piece
Virgil Abloh's Soft Trunk became the signature bag of his tenure at Louis Vuitton menswear: a miniature version of the house's historic trunk, reworked as a supple crossbody. For Spring/Summer 2020 he produced it in Monogram Prism, a transparent iridescent material embossed with the Monogram that throws off a rainbow of colour as it moves.
Reference M55932 pairs the prismatic panels with black cowhide trim, matt black studs and corner guards, and a black chain detail at the side. Twin zips open to an interior where the contents are visible through the clear sides, with a leather patch stamped Louis Vuitton Paris, Made in France, Défilé Homme Printemps-Été 2020.
It measures 24.3 by 17.5 by 10 cm and comes with its removable, adjustable leather strap and shoulder pad, as well as the box and dust bag. The date code is DU4199.
Instantly recognisable and increasingly sought after, it captures the spirit of Abloh's Louis Vuitton better than almost any other piece.
