Louis Vuitton × Kansai Yamamoto Eye-Trunk for iPhone 7 Plus M67259, Monogram with Daruma Stickers, Cruise 2018

A trunk for a telephone: the Louis Vuitton Eye-Trunk in Monogram, overlaid with Kansai Yamamoto’s daruma stickers and finished with the brass corners, lozine trim and studs of the house luggage.

The Piece

In 2018 Nicolas Ghesquière invited Kansai Yamamoto, the designer behind David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust wardrobe, to reinterpret his kabuki faces and daruma dolls across the Cruise collection. The pieces were sold for a single season and have been collected ever since.

The case is built like a miniature trunk, the Monogram canvas wrapped over a rigid shell with black trim, gold-tone corner caps and rows of studs. Three daruma dolls in red, blue and yellow sit on the back; the inside is lined in black with cut-outs for camera and buttons.

Made for the iPhone 7 Plus and 8 Plus (about 9 × 17 cm). Reference M67259; with the Louis Vuitton dust bag. Collected now as an object as much as a case.
