Overview & Cultural Context

This Japanese tea kettle adopts a traditional tetsubin silhouette but is cast in bronze, a notably rarer material than iron. The vessel features a compact rounded body, strong arched handle, and sculpted spout, giving it both authority and balance.

Decorative relief centers on auspicious imagery, including a tied treasure sack and ornamental cord motifs symbolizing prosperity and continuity. These elements are cast integrally, not applied, indicating deliberate sculptural intent.

Natural patina, surface wear, and age-related discoloration are visible throughout, adding depth and authenticity. Despite its age, the kettle has been confirmed free of water leakage.

The result is an object that functions equally as teaware and sculptural artifact, suitable for tea rooms, display cabinets, or curated interiors.
