A sage-green MA-1 made by Issey Miyake Men with the Japanese flight-jacket specialists Toys McCoy, double-named, wool-padded and lined in a riotous Tokyo souvenir print.
The Piece
In the mid-1990s Issey Miyake Men explored American military and work clothing through a Japanese lens, and the most sought-after results came from its tie-ups with specialist makers. Toys McCoy, the Japanese house famous for obsessive reproductions of flight jackets, built this MA-1 with Miyake, and the label carries both names. The style code ME63FC214 matches the house's autumn-winter 1996 numbering, so we attribute it to that season.
The outside is pure MA-1: sage nylon shell, knitted wool collar, cuffs and hem, slash pockets with snap tabs and the zip utility pocket on the left sleeve. Two embroidered patches sit on the chest, a tactical fighter wing badge and a Tokyo, Japan souvenir patch. Open it and the jacket changes character completely: the lining is printed edge to edge with a Tokyo souvenir scene of Mount Fuji, riders on vintage motorcycles and bold 'Tokyo Japan' lettering, with a woven label to match.
The padding is wool rather than polyester, which gives it the warmth and gentle weight of a period jacket. In size 38 it fits a modern medium, cropped at the waist with room through the chest. It is a rare collaboration and an important link between Miyake's menswear and Japan's reproduction culture.

Condition
- Pre-owned, graded AB: used but with no prominent marks or damage.
- Several small thread pulls in the printed lining (shown in the close-ups).
- A small snag on the right side of the ribbed hem.
- Zips, snaps and patches all present.
