The Piece
Soga Shohaku was an eccentric Edo-period painter celebrated for wild, expressive dragons and figures, an energy that translates naturally into embroidery. Here a dragon drawn in wagara, the vocabulary of traditional Japanese pattern, is paired with a whirlpool, the water element long associated with the dragon.
Hyakka Ryoran is known for expressive traditional Japanese motifs rendered in streetwear form. This reversible jacket is constructed in velvet in the sukajan, or Yokosuka jumper, silhouette.
