Hermès’s La Danse des Chevaux reversible blouson: galloping horses in overlapping blues across a black cotton ground, reversing to a sleek black stretch shell, in a generous size 56.

The Piece

The horse has been the Hermès emblem since the house began as a Paris harness maker in 1837, and its menswear keeps returning to it in new forms. La Danse des Chevaux turns the animal into something close to abstract painting: large horses’ heads and bodies, outlined in black, overlap in panels of denim blue, slate and navy until the jacket reads like a graphic collage.

The printed face is 100% cotton; the reverse is a smooth black nylon and polyurethane with a soft, matt sheen, so the jacket can be worn as a bold statement or as a minimal black bomber. Black rib knit finishes the collar, cuffs and hem, and a two-way zip with engraved pullers runs the front. Two zipped pockets sit at the sides of each face. It is made in France and was supplied through Hermès Japon.

This is a relaxed, roomy cut. Size 56 is a men’s extra large to double extra large, with a wide chest of 64 cm across and long 70 cm sleeves, so it also suits anyone who likes their outerwear oversized.

Large Hermès sizes are scarce in the pre-owned market, and a print as strong as this one is rarely seen outside the boutiques.
