The Piece

Studio D’Artisan is no gimmick label but one of the Osaka Five, the founding houses of Japanese heritage denim, and its collaboration with GBL, Studio Ghibli’s official line, brings that construction standard to a film sukajan. This 30th Anniversary edition celebrates Porco Rosso in heavyweight fabric with high-density embroidery, a collaboration-only leather patch and an anniversary print on the pocket lining.

The back panel is a classic aviation composition: “Porco Rosso” typography in gold thread, the Savoia S.21 seaplane, a 30th Anniversary marking and a base of water and hangar. Color is built in layers, an olive military plane, a red aircraft and blue water, with stitches stacked rather than laid flat. The back graphic combines the Savoia with a reinterpreted aircraft.

The rib trim runs green, white and red, a subtle nod to Porco’s Italian setting that collectors notice. Within GBL’s releases, the Studio D’Artisan collaborations sit above the basic film and seasonal sukajan and the early Alaska-style pieces, below only the most limited special editions, with appeal that spans anime, denim and sukajan collecting.
