Made in Japan Painted Denim with an Altered Carrot-Skinny Silhouette
A highly distinctive pair of EVISU Genes Osaka jeans made in Japan, combining dark indigo denim, oversized utility-style pockets and bold mustard-yellow painted graphics.
The back is dominated by EVISU’s monumental Daicock motif, painted across both rear pockets and extending dramatically down the thighs. The front carries a playful asymmetrical pairing: a stylized 戎 kanji, associated with Ebisu, on one pocket and a cheerful smiley face on the other.
Originally built with a roomy, workwear-influenced upper block, the legs have been adjusted into a much narrower tapered silhouette. The result is an unusual carrot-to-skinny fit, with generous room through the seat and thighs before narrowing sharply toward the ankles.
Design Character
This pair captures the eccentric energy that made early EVISU denim such a landmark within Japanese streetwear.
The large painted Daicock creates an almost architectural shape across the rear, while the oversized pockets, exposed rivets, rear cinch strap and oversized EVISU GENES OSAKA waistband patch give the jeans a reconstructed workwear character.
The dark indigo ground remains rich and comparatively restrained, allowing the yellow paint and golden contrast stitching to blaze across the surface. Wear, cracking and darkened marks within the paint add genuine age and texture rather than the polished uniformity of a new reproduction.

Fit and Alteration
The jeans retain a full, rounded shape through the hips and upper thighs, then taper substantially below the knee.
The lower legs appear to have been altered from the original broader EVISU cut, producing a modern carrot or skinny-inspired silhouette. This is not the standard factory fit and should be considered part of the garment’s individual history and styling.
Because of the pronounced taper, please compare all measurements with a pair of jeans that already fits comfortably.
Approximate Flat Measurements
Waist laid flat: 42 cm / 16.5 in
Approximate waist circumference: 84 cm / 33 in
Back rise: approximately 36 cm / 14.2 in
Inseam: approximately 89 cm / 35 in
Leg opening laid flat: approximately 13 cm / 5.1 in
Approximate fit: Men’s W33 with a roomy upper block and very narrow altered lower leg.
Measurements were taken with the garment laid flat. Slight variation may occur depending on placement and fabric tension.
Condition
Good pre-owned condition with authentic wear consistent with age, painted denim construction and previous use.
Visible characteristics include:
- Cracking and surface wear throughout the yellow Daicock paint
- Dark scuffs and marks within the painted areas
- Natural creasing and light fading to the indigo denim
- Minor wear and loose fibres around the hems
- Previous tapering or tailoring through the lower legs
- Light wear to the waistband patch and metal hardware
- Natural irregularity in the applied graphics
The denim remains visually strong, and the yellow motifs retain excellent impact. The aged paint surface gives the jeans a raw, archive-like character that suits the design.
Please review every photograph carefully, as the images form an essential part of the condition description.
Collector Context
Unlike more familiar EVISU five-pocket jeans with smaller seagull markings, this Genes Osaka design combines enormous front and rear pockets, an extended Daicock graphic, playful front symbols and a prominent fabric waistband patch.
The customized taper makes this pair less traditional from a denim-purist perspective, but considerably more unusual as a wearable one-off. It bridges early Japanese streetwear, experimental workwear and contemporary skinny-carrot styling in a way rarely encountered on surviving painted EVISU denim.
Visual Presence
These jeans create a dramatically different impression from every angle.
From the front, the smiley and kanji graphics feel playful and deliberately mismatched. From the rear, the gigantic yellow Daicock turns the entire pair into wearable graphic art. The narrow lower leg sharpens the silhouette and keeps the oversized pocket construction from appearing excessively loose.
An outstanding piece for collectors of:
- EVISU and Evisu Genes Osaka
- Japanese painted denim
- Y2K streetwear
- Amekaji fashion
- Rare Japanese jeans
- Carrot and tapered silhouettes
- Archive denim
- Experimental menswear
- Hand-finished clothing
- Wearable Japanese design
