New with tags from the Autumn/Winter 2020 Comme des Garçons Shirt x Futura collaboration: a cotton coach jacket printed edge to edge with the artist's sprayed atoms and nebulae, lined in grey fleece.
The Piece
Futura, born Leonard McGurr, painted New York subway cars in the 1970s and became the graffiti artist the art world took seriously, known for abstract, airbrushed forms and his floating atom motif. In 2020 Comme des Garçons Shirt devoted a full collection to his work, and the coach jackets, worn on the runway in Paris, became the signature of the season.
This one carries an all-over print of a Futura canvas: clouds of sprayed pink, yellow, cobalt and red, scratched line drawings, spirals and his green atom symbols scattered across the body and sleeves. The cut is the classic coach jacket: point collar, snap front, slash hand pockets, elasticated cuffs and a drawcord hem.
It is lined throughout in soft grey polyester fleece, which makes it warmer than most coach jackets and good for three seasons.
Tagged S with the house's French cut: 43.5 cm shoulder, 50 cm pit to pit, 68 cm length and 63.5 cm sleeve, a neat, slightly boxy fit for a men's small or a women's medium.
