Chanel Vintage CC Lava Round Clip-On Earrings, Textured Gold Tone, Autumn 1994 (94A)

The “lava” finish, as it is known in Japan: a rough, hammered gold-tone ground with the CC and a beaded border in relief. These round clip-ons are stamped for Autumn 1994, the season that made the finish famous.

The Piece

The 94A lava pieces, brooches, earrings and chains, were among the boldest Chanel bijoux of the decade, with the look of ancient gold pulled from the ground. They were designed to be worn with the heavy Byzantine-inspired chains of the same season, and they remain the most recognisable Chanel earrings of the era.

At 32 mm, the discs are substantial but light, and the clips are firm. The texture hides the small marks of three decades far better than a polished surface would.
