Chanel Vintage CC Lava Brooch, Textured Gold Tone, Autumn 1995 (95A)

The interlocking CC cast in the molten, pitted surface collectors call lava, stamped for Autumn 1995 and in near-unused condition. The most sought-after texture in vintage Chanel, in its most wearable size.

The Piece

For Autumn 1995 Chanel’s studio poured its gilt into moulds taken from rough volcanic stone, and the result, the lava finish, has become shorthand among collectors for the best of the decade. Pieces that survive without wear to the high points are rare.

At 41 mm the brooch suits a lapel or the band of a hat, and the roll-over pin is strong enough for heavy tweed.
