Chanel Vintage CC Heart Clip-On Earrings, Gold Tone, Spring 1997 (97P)

A heart with the interlocking CC folded into its curves, in warm gilt metal and stamped for Spring 1997. One of the softer shapes in Chanel’s vintage repertoire, and one of the hardest to find as a matched pair in this condition.

The Piece

Chanel returned to the heart again and again through the 1990s, from the Valentine collections to the quilted heart bags of recent seasons. These earrings belong to the 1997 spring run, when the house was still casting its bijoux in Paris and finishing them by hand.

At about 28 mm across, they sit just below the lobe on a secure clip. The sculpted surface gives the gilding depth, so the heart reads as jewellery rather than as a logo.
