A striking Bizen ware sculptural ornament depicting a tama-nori shishi — the guardian lion balancing upon a jewel-like sphere. With its integrated stand and a total height of approximately 36.5 cm, this is a display-first object with true interior presence.

In Japanese iconography, the shishi (lion-dog guardian) symbolizes protection and the warding of misfortune. The sacred jewel motif adds prosperity and spiritual treasure—together forming an auspicious emblem ideal for tokonoma-style staging or curated interiors.

Material: Bizen is prized for high-fired unglazed stoneware where flame and ash create depth. Sculptural Bizen is collected for silhouette, mass, and carving—qualities emphasized here by the dynamic pose and stable base.

Box / attribution: a wooden storage/presentation box (tomobako) is included. Artist attribution is presented as seller-provided unless independently verified via signature and box inscription.

  • Overall height (incl. stand): approx. 36.5 cm
  • Overall width: approx. 15.7 cm
  • Stand: approx. 2.4 cm H; 9.8 cm diameter

Condition: some wear/soiling may be present consistent with age and handling. Review photos carefully; check edges/tips and stand stability.
