A reversible Back Street Crawler sukajan with two radically different identities: a flaming cobra, rose-crowned skulls and Gothic lettering on one face, white eagles, pine and “Japan” script on the other. Outlaw streetwear and heritage souvenir embroidery share one silhouette, now carrying a pronounced, genuinely aged patina.
The Piece
The ivory-and-black face carries the darker, more theatrical personality. A large hooded cobra rises from orange flames across the back, its raised body worked in yellow, cream, gray and black thread with a red forked tongue extending toward the lettering above. Two weathered skulls embedded in dense red roses and green leaves frame it at lower left and right, and oversized Old English-style Back Street Crawler lettering curves across the shoulders, with smaller Junk Clothing script below the principal artwork. The design resembles tattoo flash translated into thread: the expanded hood gives the snake a monumental silhouette, the flames lend heat and movement, and the roses crown the skulls in a memento mori contrast between mortality and beauty.
Each front chest carries a matching skull surrounded by red roses with small flames rising from the crown, giving the front substantial weight even when worn open and linking it to the back rather than isolating the back panel. The palette runs from aged ivory or champagne body and black sleeves to orange flames, red roses, a golden-yellow cobra, white and gray skulls, green foliage and brown Gothic lettering.
Turned inside out, the jacket becomes a black satin body with aged ivory sleeves and monochrome striped ribbing. A large white eagle perches across an angular pine branch, wings lifted and feathers fully extended, beneath “Japan” in flowing white script, with small stylized pine clusters around it; two smaller white eagles face inward toward the zipper on the chest. White-on-black thread gives the artwork a bold, almost woodblock-like quality. In Japanese visual culture pine is associated with longevity, resilience and endurance, and here it bridges the American eagle and the Japanese decorative identity of the sukajan, while the script recalls garments made as wearable records of a place or time abroad.
Decorative racing stripes along the sleeves sharpen the outline with an influence from varsity jackets, racing apparel and stadium jumpers. The sukajan began in Japan's postwar souvenir-jacket culture and moved into youth fashion, working-class style, rockabilly, biker clothing and international streetwear; this example holds both ends of that evolution, the classic souvenir vocabulary on one face and Y2K Japanese punk on the other.

Condition
- Genuine pre-owned vintage garment with substantial visible age character; the embroidery remains visually strong and richly colored, with the cobra, skulls, roses and eagle motifs retaining substantial definition.
- The aged ivory and champagne areas show widespread discoloration, gray and brown shading, surface marks, streaking and uneven tonal patina, especially across the sleeves, body panels, shoulders, lower areas and around the ribbed edges.
- General creasing and wrinkling, age-related variation in the satin sheen, darkened areas and scattered staining on the lighter fabric, and wear around the cuffs, collar and waistband.
- Natural surface variation from storage and previous use, with minor irregularities associated with an older reversible garment.
- The pronounced patina is an important condition factor, suited to a collector who values genuinely aged Japanese streetwear over a pristine garment; the photographs are the clearest record of coloration, aging and embroidery.
Fit Notes
Japanese-market sukajan often have a shorter body and more compact proportions than contemporary Western bombers. Request current flat measurements before purchase and compare chest width, back length, hem width and collar-to-cuff sleeve length with a raglan-sleeve jacket that fits comfortably.
Styling & Display
The cobra side works with black denim, engineer boots, leather trousers, vintage band shirts, tattoo-inspired fashion, punk, Visual Kei, rockabilly and darker Japanese streetwear; the eagle side pairs with selvedge denim, military chinos, plain T-shirts, work boots, sneakers and traditional amekaji. Fully embroidered on both faces, it can also be shown on a wide wooden hanger or in a deep garment frame within a collection of sukajan, Japanese denim, biker jackets or Y2K streetwear.
Authenticity & Care
Back Street Crawler branding embroidered across the back with Junk Clothing script; the label is documented as a Japanese label developed from the early 2000s, making an early-2000s attribution plausible. Every piece is examined and documented in Japan before dispatch and is offered with the Japonista authenticity guarantee.
