Vintage BRM Bakuretsu Ranman Musume Soul of Phoenix Reversible Sukajan Jacket Japanese Velvet Embroidered Bomber Size 40 M

Mythic Phoenix Embroidery, Black Velvet and a Fully Reversible Satin Souvenir-Jacket Design

A richly detailed vintage sukajan from B-R-M / Bakuretsu Ranman Musume, created around the dramatic “Soul of Phoenix” design.

The primary face combines an inky black velvet-finish body with dense multicolored embroidery. A magnificent phoenix spreads across the back beneath the words “Soul of Phoenix,” surrounded by layered feathers, leaves, jewel-like eye motifs, and the inscription “The Secret of Mt. Fuji.”

Turn the jacket inside out to reveal a contrasting black-and-white satin face decorated with a stylized phoenix, a small animal figure, Japanese lettering, and the embroidered phrases “Neo Asian Taste Clothing” and “Perpetual Youth and Longevity.”

Two distinct personalities live inside one jacket: opulent mythological velvet on one side and graphic monochrome satin on the other.

Design and Embroidery

Soul of Phoenix Velvet Side

The collector-facing side is distinguished by a dark velvet-textured ground that gives the embroidery unusual depth and luminosity.

The back phoenix is worked in green, rust red, blue, gold, ivory, and earthy brown threads. Its feathers unfurl in layered arcs around a central composition that feels part folklore illustration, part Japanese tattoo art, and part psychedelic amekaji streetwear.

The front continues the story with:

• A circular “The Dwelling of Phoenix” chest emblem
• White B-R-M lettering
• Large feather embroidery extending along one sleeve
• A skeletal bird, web, botanical, and geometric imagery along the opposite sleeve
• Subtle gold scroll embroidery near the pockets
• Navy-and-ivory striped ribbing

The asymmetrical sleeve artwork makes the jacket especially striking from profile views.

Reversible Satin Side

The reverse presents a more traditional sukajan structure with:

• Black satin body
• Bright ivory satin sleeves
• Burnt-orange, navy, and cream striped ribbing
• Gold piping along the raglan seams
• Arrow-shaped pocket trim
• Embroidered phoenix and animal motifs across the chest
• Large central back artwork with Japanese characters
“Neo Asian Taste Clothing” and “Works From 1997” lettering

The restrained taupe, ivory, black, and rust palette makes this side easier to coordinate while preserving the jacket’s unmistakable Japanese streetwear identity.

Symbolism and Aesthetic Language

The phoenix gives the jacket a visual language of rebirth, transformation, endurance, and renewed strength. Its elaborate plumage contrasts beautifully against the dark velvet, allowing every thread color to glow.

The reverse side introduces the phrase “Perpetual Youth and Longevity,” extending the design into a broader meditation on vitality and continuation.

Rather than reproducing one traditional image literally, the jacket combines Japanese-inspired animals, decorative foliage, tattoo-style linework, English lettering, and late-20th-century amekaji graphics into an exuberant wearable collage.

Construction and Styling

Reversible Souvenir-Jacket Structure

This jacket features:

• Fully reversible construction
• Velvet-finish embroidered outer face
• Satin-finish contrasting reverse
• Dense machine embroidery
• Raglan sleeves
• Full metal zipper
• Pockets on both sides
• Striped rib-knit collar, cuffs, and waistband
• Classic cropped sukajan bomber silhouette

The velvet side pairs especially well with dark denim, black trousers, boots, and layered streetwear. The satin side offers a lighter contrast that works naturally with vintage jeans, military trousers, sneakers, or an amekaji wardrobe.

Size and Fit

Manufacturer’s Tag Size

Size 40 / M

As a Japanese-market garment, this is approximately comparable to a contemporary Western S–M or fitted M, depending on body shape, layering, and the desired silhouette.

The raglan shoulder construction provides some flexibility through the upper body, while the ribbed waistband creates the traditional compact sukajan profile.

Condition

Vintage pre-owned condition with age-appropriate signs of wear.

Natural characteristics may include light surface rubbing, softened sheen, creasing, minor embroidery wear, small marks, or gentle rib-knit aging associated with previous use and storage. These details contribute to the jacket’s established vintage character rather than the uniform appearance of a newly manufactured garment.

Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description. Additional detailed images are available upon request.

Collector and Styling Appeal

This piece offers an unusually strong combination of:

• B-R-M / Bakuretsu Ranman Musume branding
• Soul of Phoenix full-back embroidery
• Black velvet and satin reversible construction
• Extensive sleeve artwork
• Mt. Fuji-related lettering
• Japanese tattoo and amekaji visual influence
• Two complete wearable designs
• Collectible late-20th-century streetwear character

It is particularly suited to sukajan collectors, Japanese streetwear enthusiasts, phoenix and folklore collectors, tattoo-art wardrobes, rockabilly styling, and anyone seeking a jacket that functions equally well as clothing and textile art.
