WACKO MARIA's collaboration with the Shibuya tattoo house 56 Tattoo Studio takes the souvenir-jacket grammar of raglan sleeves, rib knit, lustrous satin and oversized back embroidery and re-authors it through contemporary tattoo culture. An imposing horned skull fills the back like a backpiece, signed beneath in red script: “Gebor.”
The Piece
The horned skull is embroidered at heroic scale across the back. Where traditional sukajan use dragons, tigers, eagles and maps as emblems of power, myth and travel, here the skull becomes a modern crest, less about danger than about permanence. Tattooing is the practice of committing to an image, and the back panel translates that commitment into cloth, an embroidered declaration that mirrors the language of skin.
Below the skull the script “Gebor” is stitched in red like a signature on a canvas. Whether read as a name, a password or a studio code, it works as an insider marker rather than a loud logo, a specific detail inseparable from the collaboration's identity and difficult to imitate convincingly.
Color does quiet luxury work: the deep blue body is nocturnal and formal, while the champagne sleeves keep the mid-century souvenir-jacket contrast. That tension between refined palette and transgressive subject is core to WACKO MARIA (Guilty Parties), whose identity lives in collisions of good tailoring and guilty imagery. 56 Tattoo Studio is known as a Shibuya-based studio, and the partnership sits within the label's broader practice of working with tattoo artists and studios, treating tattoo iconography as high visual culture; here the studio's identity is embedded in the most traditional sukajan feature, the back embroidery.
The reversible build lets the wearer choose which face to show, the skull as banner or the quieter reverse when the aura is wanted without the broadcast. The jacket also continues the sukajan's hybrid line, born in postwar Japan from American varsity silhouettes and Japanese embroidery: the silhouette reads varsity-adjacent, the craft Japanese, and the subject global underground, from tattoo to rockabilly, punk and nightlife. A wide 66 cm chest and comfortable yuki (raglan sleeve measurement) let it drape over hoodies or knitwear while the ribbing keeps the shape crisp.
