Seated in contemplation within its own portable sanctuary, this gilt polychrome Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu measures 21.5 cm and is enshrined in a 31 cm zushi case. Made at pilgrimage scale for study and travel altars, the wish-fulfilling Kannon brings a quiet, constant presence into daily devotion.
The Piece
This work is a small-format Kannon icon housed in a zushi, a portable shrine case that turns the figure into architecture. The zushi controls reveal, protection and portability, creating a concentrated gold sanctum around the icon for stable devotional focus.
Presented as Nyoirin Kannon Bosatsu, it is devotion at pilgrimage scale, suited to study altars, travel altars and secondary sanctuaries. Its time-worn condition is approached with conservation realism: legibility and structural stability matter more than surface perfection.

Who Is Nyoirin Kannon
Nyoirin Kannon is a form of Kannon associated with compassionate responsiveness and wish-fulfillment, often shown holding the wish-granting jewel (nyoi hōju) and the wheel of the Dharma (rin) from which the name derives. The icon represents a steady, intimate devotional presence suited to daily life rather than monumental display.
