This 40-go gold butsudan opens three ways to reveal a guden-style sanctum in the Nishi Honganji manner of Jōdo Shinshū: pillars, stepped platforms and a gold field that gathers every light in the room. At 176 cm tall behind black lacquer, it is less a cabinet than a small altar hall awaiting its principal image.
The Piece
This temple-proportioned gold butsudan is built in the visual language of Jōdo Shinshū, in the Honganji-ha or Nishi Honganji style of presentation. At the 40-go scale the cabinet reads as architecture: a staged sanctum with disciplined pillars, layered platforms and a reflective gold field that transforms light into atmosphere. Fully opened, the three-way opening format expands the frontage to a ceremonial width.
The exterior is black lacquer with a clean architectural silhouette; the interior has a gold-brilliance finish, believed to be gold powder. Even uninstalled, the piece carries lineage and ceremony, and once fitted with a principal image and implements it becomes a complete devotional environment.
An altar cabinet of the architectural-object category, it suits a dedicated room, a collector with space, or an institution seeking a Japanese Buddhist interior anchor; its scale and gold field define a room rather than decorate it.

Authenticity & Care
The Nishi Honganji (Honganji-ha) style attribution rests on form and interior conventions rather than maker marks; the interior finish is believed to be gold powder, though gold leaf or a gold-toned finish cannot be excluded without in-hand examination. Every piece is examined and documented in Japan before dispatch and is offered with the Japonista authenticity guarantee.
