Modelo terminado DeAgostini a escala 1/8 del Lamborghini Countach LP500S, con luces y sonido funcionales, 6.6 kg

At 1/8 the Countach LP500S stops reading as a miniature and becomes architecture, its wedge profile and scissor-door theater rendered at a size that commands a room. This completed DeAgostini build in red, about 517.5 mm long and 6.6 kg, carries working lights and engine sound and has been kept in a dark, glass-cased environment.

The Piece

A true 1/8 Countach is a room-visible design object, a desk-sized sculpture that carries the architectural drama of the Countach into a format one can live with. The LP500S silhouette is all angles and intention, a wedge that looks drawn with a ruler and a dare. At this scale the stance, panel geometry, window rake and scissor door become the point.

The DeAgostini completed-build format adds another layer: not simply painted diecast but a constructed system of body, interior, electronics and sound meant to behave like a miniature showroom exhibit. Headlights, tail lights and an interior light, together with engine-start and horn sounds, turn the icon into something present rather than merely represented.

The Countach is effectively the global emblem of the supercar, from an era when performance cars were unapologetically visual: sharp edges, bold proportions and a cockpit-like cabin. The scissor door is its signature gesture, less a hinge than a ritual; opened, the object performs its identity. Red amplifies the archetype, so that in a room it reads as a museum piece from the late twentieth-century design revolution, when cars became rolling architecture.

Large-scale models survive differently from small ones: rarely discarded, but easily damaged in handling or transit. Clean examples have usually lived a collector's life of controlled light, minimal dust and careful handling. The Countach endures because it never stopped being iconic, and the wedge profile, aggressive stance and theatrical entry still inform modern cars.

Partwork Publishing Heritage

De Agostini sits at the intersection of publishing and collecting. Founded in Italy and active worldwide, it pioneered the modern partwork, serialized magazine issues paired with physical components, turning collecting into a structured experience unfolding over time rather than a single retail purchase. In Japan it became especially influential through officially licensed series, each framed editorially with history, diagrams and narrative so that the finished object could be read and studied as well as displayed.
